The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, as part of the exciting Legal Innovation Lab Wales initiative, seeks to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic developer who can turn their hand to anything that comes their way, who can embrace new challenges with enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in.

This fixed term post has been funded by the ERDF-supported Legal Innovation Lab Wales Operation to June 2023. The aim is that the project and post is extended beyond this point.

Usually based on Singleton Campus in Swansea, remote workers will be given equal consideration.

The day-to-day requirements of the role will be varied; you will be working on a wide variety of LegalTech projects, the vast majority of which will be in their early stages (proof of concepts and prototypes).

The Lab will also support the development and testing of software that can be deployed within projects seeking to mitigate the risk of criminal and terrorist exploitation of digital platforms, as part of the work of the School\'s Cyber Threats Research Centre (CyTREC).

The Software Development Team will support innovation in LegalTech and cyber threats. The team will have creative opportunities to shape project proposals and to develop prototypes.

The aim of the role:

* Understand the interests, issues, problems, and goals of the legal community in terms of how they work with legal/cyber threat information and processes as well as of the clients they serve

* Make best use of existing open-source software, frameworks, and APIs that are based on established technologies and practices

* Reuse, augment, and adapt open-source software, toolsets, and APIs rather than develop software entirely from scratch

Experience

* 2 or more years industry experience

* Demonstrable evidence of strong and diverse programming skills across a range of development platforms, including Full Stack development

* Experience of software design patterns and principles

* Experience with front-end, UI or UX design and implementation

* Experience of unit testing, test-driven development, and user evaluation

* Experience of containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

Knowledge and Skills

* Exposure to version control solutions such as Git

* Exposure to object orientated programming

* Experience with database design, development, maintenance and optimisation

* The ability to quickly assess new technologies and patterns and to rapidly develop proof of concepts to demonstrate value

* Ability to deploy a product to a live environment

* Understanding of creation and management of CI/CD pipelines

* Experience of implementing solutions using Cloud based \'Platform as a Service\' offerings (e.g. Azure App Services, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, GCP App Engine, Heroku)

* Exposure to machine learning

* Experience with database design, development, maintenance and optimisation

* Familiarity with cyber security and cyber threats
